The short version

Almost everything on this site happens on your own device. The messages you save, the cards you make, the messages you write and your download counter all live in your browser's local storage and are never sent to us. The only personal data we store on our servers is the email address you choose to give when you sign up for the card maker.

What we collect and why

When you sign up to keep using the card maker, we store: your email address, the date and time of signup, whether you have confirmed it, and a hashed (unreadable) version of your IP address used only to limit automated abuse. We send you one confirmation email containing a single link. Nothing is treated as a real signup until you click that link, and if you never click it your address stays unconfirmed and is not used for anything.

We use your confirmed email address to send occasional condolence-writing tips, card ideas and relevant updates. The lawful basis is your consent, given when you submit the form and confirm the link. We do not sell or rent your email address to anyone, and we deliberately do not use any third party bot check or CAPTCHA service, so no outside company sees your visit.

What stays on your device

Your favourites, your own written messages, your unlock status and your free download counter are stored in your browser only. Clearing your browser data removes them, which is why the app offers a one tap backup file you control. We never see the contents of your favourites, your messages or your cards.

Advertising

This site shows adverts served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites, depending on your consent choices. You can learn how Google uses data at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and manage ad personalisation at https://adssettings.google.com. Where required, a consent message is shown before any advertising cookies are set.

Unsubscribe and deletion

Every email we send contains an unsubscribe link that works immediately. You can also email info@condolencecardmessages.com at any time to ask what we hold about you, to unsubscribe, or to have your email address deleted from our records. We action deletion requests promptly and confirm by reply.

Data retention and security

Signup emails are kept while the mailing list is active or until you ask for deletion. The list is stored in a database file kept outside the public web folder, and IP addresses are stored only in hashed form.

Children

This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect email addresses from children. If you believe a child has submitted an email address, contact us and we will delete it.
